Gujarat, Ahmedabad 27th January 2025: Bollywood has seen a couple of releases since the new year started, but the one that seemed to have struck the right chord with the audiences is Sky Force, starring Akshay Kumar and debutant Veer Pahariya in the lead roles. The film, which was Bollywood’s latest Republic Day offering, has not only opened to rave reviews, but has managed to keep the box office registers ringing throughout the weekend. Sky Force has earned over Rs 73 crore in India, with gross collection standing at Rs 92.90 crore.
On the first day of its release, Sky Force earned Rs 15.30 crore. It witnessed 80% growth on Saturday, with Rs 26.30 crore. On Sunday, the film managed to earn Rs 31.60 crore, taking the total collection to Rs 73.20 crore. Not just in India, the film has been faring well in the international markets as well, which promises Sky Force to become 2025’s first Rs 100 crore film soon. The figures are celebratory considering the box office performance of other Bollywood releases in recent times. Reportedly, films such as ‘Fateh’, ‘Emergency’ and ‘Azaad’ have been able to earn around Rs 13 crore, Rs 16 crore and Rs 7 crore, respectively.
While the breathtaking aerial action sequences have worked out well for the film, the audiences as well as critics have lauding debutant Veer Pahariya, who plays the role of T Vijaya aka Toddy in the film, a character inspired by Squadron Leader AjjamadaBoppayaDevayya. A recipient of Maha Vir Chakra, Devayya is celebrated for his valour and iconic dogfight against enemy jets during the 1965 Indo-Pak War. Akshay Kumar, on the other hand, is seen playing the role of Wing Commander Kumar Om, a fictionalized version of Vir Chakra awardee Om Prakash Taneja. Akshay and Veer’s camaraderie has also become one of the highlights of the film.
Reacting to audiences’ love towards his portrayal of T Vijaya in Sky Force, Veer Pahariya said, “The real reviews are actually from them and the love and appreciation I’m receiving from them means the world to me.” Pahariya had previously worked as an assistant director on Maddock Films’ ‘Bhediya’. His keen interest in music led him to collaborate with Resul Pookutty, an Oscar-winning sound engineer. He, along with his brother Shikhar Pahariya, founded Indiawyn Gaming Private Limited. And now, with great reviews pouring in for the actor, the audiences are looking forward to what’s next for this rising star. Akshay, on the other hand, has a busy 2025 with projects such as ‘Shankara’, ‘Jolly LLB 3’, ‘Housefull 5’ and many more to his credit.
