AHMEDABAD, GUJARAT | 03rd MARCH 2026 — As Holi celebrations gather momentum across the country, music is emerging as the defining force behind the festival’s evolving character. Once centred primarily on colours and community rituals, Holi events today are increasingly shaped by curated soundscapes blending Bollywood favourites with global electronic genres such as Afro House and Techno.
Ahmedabad-born DJ and music producer Yashh Patel, popularly known as DJ Yashh, says this shift reflects changing audience preferences, particularly among younger revellers.
“Bollywood remains the emotional backbone of Holi. It connects instantly across generations. But genres like Afro House and Techno are adding a global, high-energy dimension to celebrations. This fusion keeps Holi fresh while respecting its traditions,” says DJ Yashh.
From residential society gatherings to large-scale ticketed events, organisers are investing in professional sound production and themed musical line-ups. Bollywood tracks bring familiarity and nostalgia, Afro House introduces rhythmic groove, and Techno builds intensity on the dance floor. Together, these styles create an immersive experience that appeals to diverse audiences.
According to DJ Yashh, the popularity of electronic genres during Holi mirrors India’s broader exposure to international music trends.
“Today’s listeners are globally connected. They stream international artists and attend music festivals. It is natural that these influences are becoming part of our traditional celebrations,” he said.
However, he emphasises that growth in scale must be matched with responsibility. “As Holi events become bigger, organisers and DJs must prioritise crowd safety, appropriate sound levels and eco-friendly practices. Music should elevate the festive spirit, not overpower it.”
