SFA Championships 2024 Ahmedabad: Athletics Take Centre Stage on Penultimate Day, As Athletes Battle for Medals Across Track & Field

More than 14,000 athletes from 387 schools are participating in venues spread across the city


Ahmedabad 25 November 2024: The SFA Championships 2024 Ahmedabad were a showcase of grit and determination on the penultimate day, as young athletes pushed their limits on the track and field. This high-energy day came just after the inspiring ‘From the Ground Up’ panel, where notable figures like Paralympian Bhavana Chaudhary and table tennis coach Lalan Doshi, among others, shared insights on grassroots sports.

Monday began with Henish Bhaveshkumar Patel of Ahmedabad Public School International, Gandhinagar, taking gold in the boys’ U-18 800m. Krishna Thakur Chandwani of Jamnabai Narsee School followed him with a dominant win in the boys U-16 200m, while Sanaya Raval of The Riverside School claimed the top spot in the girls U-16 200m. Ziya Detroja from Green Valley School For Children impressed with a gold medal in the Shotput (3kg) event, as athletes across categories delivered medal-winning performances.

Sports For All (SFA) is committed to professionalising, organising, and monetising grassroots sports, aiming to foster a culture that values and invests in sports nationwide. The championships this year will run until November 26, roping in participants from across Ahmedabad in a hunt for the best talents. This year, an impressive 14,764 athletes, aged 3 to 18, from 387 schools are participating in the event.

On Monday, in basketball, Rachana School, Shahibaug, clinched gold in the girls U-11 category, while Mount Carmel High School emerged victorious in the U-16 division. Kabaddi saw Kendriya Vidyalaya, AFS Wadhsar, Gandhinagar, take gold in the girls U-17 category, with PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1, Shahibaug, and Shree Vidyanagar School claiming the top spots in boys U-17 and U-19, respectively. In volleyball, Gems Genesis International School showcased dominance by securing gold in both the boys U-12 and U-14 categories.

Furthermore, the table tennis events saw exceptional performances, with Aryan Rao of Delhi Public School, Gandhinagar, making a strong impact by winning silver in the boys U-16 singles and gold in the U-18 singles. Jash Mehta from Udgam School for Children claimed the top spot in the U-10 category, while Tavish Patel of AES AG Primary School triumphed in the U-12 category. Harshvardhan Bhatt from Fatima Convent Primary School rounded off the day with a gold in the boys U-15 singles.

With a day left in the Championships, Gems Genesis International School leads the table with a whopping 169 points. Coming in behind the school is Udgam School for Children, Thaltej, in second with 140 points, and Anand Niketan School, Shilaj, rounding up the podium with 133 points.
