Few can tell you what they paid for medicines, even when that bill repeats every single month for years. PlatinumRx, an affordable chronic medications platform, reports that this blind spot is costing Indian families more than they realise.
The math is simple once someone actually runs it. A family paying ₹5,000 a month for diabetes or hypertension medication is looking at ₹60,000 a year, a number that rarely gets questioned because it arrives in small, routine instalments rather than one large bill. PlatinumRx’s model, sourcing the same salt compositions directly from GMP-certified manufacturers and cutting out distributor and stockist markups, can bring that down by up to 60%, turning a ₹5,000 month into roughly ₹2,000.
What makes the gap persist isn’t a lack of alternatives; it’s that most patients have never been shown a side-by-side comparison of what they’re paying versus what the same medicine costs elsewhere.
“Most families don’t realise how much a chronic condition costs them until they actually add up a year of it. We built PlatinumRx because that number shouldn’t come as a surprise, and it shouldn’t be a burden either,” said Ashutosh Pandey, Co-founder, PlatinumRx.
PlatinumRx has helped more than 10 lakh users save a combined ₹137 crore so far. By making these cost comparisons transparent, the platform has successfully shifted consumer habits, with 70% of its monthly volume now coming from repeat orders. The company currently delivers across 19,000 PIN codes through nine warehouses, with six more underway.
Founded in 2023 by IIT and IIM alumni Ashutosh Pandey and Piyush Kumar, PlatinumRx works directly with pharmaceutical manufacturers to remove the intermediaries that typically drive up the price of long-term treatment.
Users are advised to consult their doctor before switching from a prescribed medicine brand to an alternative, particularly while managing chronic or complex medical conditions.
