How Flexible Gig Work is Helping Husband-wife Duo Start a New Life

VADODARA, GUJARAT | 06th JULY 2026 | Anita and Mayur’s story is a perfect example of how working with new-age platforms like food delivery can help in building a new life and shared future. It is also a classic example of how these new opportunities help in women empowerment.

Anita initially worked with  a company as a contractual employee, where she struggled with juggling between long working hours with lack of flexibility, and the pressure of managing household responsibilities amongst financial constraints.

“It did not suit me. There were timing issues, and  less number of  leaves. I am married and needed time with my family, and our home conditions were also not good” Anita recalled.

Her husband, Vankar Mayurkumar, had already spent over three years working as a delivery partner with Swiggy. Seeing her daily struggle, he suggested she join him. Recognizing the option  of flexible scheduling, Anita decided to take the leap, starting out as a part-time delivery partner. “During festivals, my earnings increased, and I felt I had the option of whether I wanted to log in or not,” she says. “It felt good to simply have that choice and control in life.”

Stepping into a traditionally male-dominated field was not easy. Initially, Anita was worried about safety and how she would navigate the streets. “But once I started, unfamiliar roads became familiar routes, and my confidence grew. Today, I often deliver till midnight” she shared. Moreover, as a female delivery partner, Anita has been embraced by her peers. “I would have done it nevertheless, but having support and encouragement helps,” she says. The local delivery partner community has offered her continuous support and encouragement, making her feel secure and valued as she sets an example for others.

Today, Anita has transitioned to working as a full-time Swiggy delivery partner, and together the husband-wife team are creating a new life for themselves. “I am not very educated, so finding a job was often difficult, and I couldn’t manage home and a regular job together,” Anita reflects honestly. “Now, as a delivery partner, I am able to do everything I wanted and live a better life. I am also trying various hobbies.”

She encourages others to also become delivery partners “If you do not treat it as a supplementary income, and invest time in it, your life can change forever” Anita concludes with a content smile.
