Maruti Suzuki Signs MoU with Government of Gujarat to Establish Advanced Manufacturing Labs in Five Industrial Training Institutes

  • Advanced Manufacturing Labs to be set up at Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in Palanpur, Bhavnagar, Surendranagar, Godhra, and Dahod
  • In FY 2025-26, the Company invested INR 125 crore (INR 1,250 million) in skill development initiatives under its CSR program

AHMEDABAD, GUJARAT | 22nd JUNE 2026 | Maruti Suzuki India Limited (“Maruti Suzuki”) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Directorate of Employment and Training (DET), Government of Gujarat, to set up Advanced Manufacturing Labs (AMLs) at Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in Palanpur, Bhavnagar, Surendranagar, Godhra, and Dahod.

Aligned with the Government of India’s Skill India mission, the initiative aims to enhance employability and build a future-ready workforce. Developed under Maruti Suzuki’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, the labs replicate a real-world shop-floor environment and provide hands-on training in areas such as assembly, welding, painting, machining, mechatronics, and safety.

Maruti Suzuki is rapidly expanding its manufacturing presence in Gujarat. The Company is set to commence operations of its fourth line at the Hansalpur facility this year, taking its total annual production capacity to 1 million units from the current 750,000 units. In addition, the Company is also setting up a new plant with a capacity of 1 million units at Sanand, Gujarat. Combined with the capacity ofnew plant,the Company’s total annual production capacity in Gujarat state will rise to 2 million units.

Through Advanced Manufacturing Labs, we are equipping students with experiential learning and confidence in modern equipment, nurturing professionals who can seamlessly integrate into the evolving automotive ecosystem.”

Mr. Bharti added, “We have a robust plan to expand manufacturing operations in the State. Each expansion brings with it a new industrial ecosystem, one that demands skilled and future-ready workforce. The Advanced Manufacturing Labs will play a pivotal role in meeting this latent need and ensuring that talent is ready to meet the industry demands.”

By setting up Advanced Manufacturing Labs in Gujarat’s ITIs, Maruti Suzuki is bridging the gap between classroom learning and industry requirements. This initiative will empower our youth and strengthen Gujarat’s position as a hub for the automotive sector, in line with Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat and Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel’s guidance toward Viksit Gujarat 2047. The momentum and support from Hon’ble Cabinet Minister Shri Kunwarjibhai Mohanbhai Bavaliya, Labour, Skill Development & Employment, Hon’ble State Minister Shri Kantibhai Amrutiya Labour, Skill Development and Hon’ble Secretary Shri Lochan Sahera, Labour, Skill Development are paving the way for future-ready learning skills that match the pace of global development.”

At present, Maruti Suzuki supports 31 ITIs across India in manufacturing-related trades, including the five mentioned above. The Company has established 18state-of-the-art AMLs across the country. With the addition of five in Gujarat, the Company will operate 23 AMLs across seven states and union territories, including Gujarat, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, and Chandigarh.

Maruti Suzuki also operates four Japan-India Institutes for Manufacturing (JIMs) in Gujarat (Mehsana, Gandhinagar) and Haryana (Manesar, Sonipat), established as a collaborative initiative between the Governments of India and Japan, with an ambition to create a pool of skilled workforce.
